Lecture for the Holocaust to students from Evosmos

On the 23rd of February, 2018, ACT welcomed the students of the 2nd Junior High School of Evosmos to a journey to the past. As a part of the “Nazism and crimes in Greece” program, the students had the opportunity to attend a lecture “On the position and struggles of women in a fascist and Nazi environment” delivered by Dr. Maria Kyriakidou, professor of History and Head of Humanities and Social Studies, ACT. The lecture, along with material from the Second World War from Italy and Germany, highlighted the crimes against humanity and more specifically, the conditions of women during the Holocaust in the Concentration Camps and in Greece, during the German occupation.

The lecture concluded with an emotional screening of the documentary on the Greek Resistance during the German occupation, “The Birds of the Swamp”. After the lecture, the students were kindly welcomed to explore the facilities of the ACT, the library, and the classrooms. The visit was completed with an experiential seminar on Vocational Guidance, presented by Dimitris Diamantis, Business Liaison, Career Services & Alumni Relations Officer of ACT. By the end of this visit, the high school students acquired precious historical knowledge and developed a more clear idea on their interests.
