Dr. Evi Tramantza, new Chair of the Global Council of the OCLC Cooperative
Anatolia College is proud to announce that Dr. Evi Tramantza, Director of Anatolia College Libraries and Archives, was elected as the Chair of the Global Council of the OCLC Cooperative. The Global Council includes the America Council, the Asia Pacific Council, and the EMEA Council for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa at OCLC. The Global Council brings forward worldwide library viewpoints, guiding the OCLC Cooperative with their informed perspectives representing the 16,000 member libraries. At the same time, Dr. Evi Tramantza also leads as the chair of the EMEA Council this year.
On the 16th of November 2022, Dr. Evi Tramantza chaired this year's first Global Council Meeting of the OCLC Cooperative, starting her term on the 1st of November 2022.
The OCLC is a global, multifaceted library organization that provides innovation and collaboration to advance libraries through shared technology services, original research, and community programs for its members and the library community - librarians, technologists, researchers, pioneers, leaders, and learners - at large. The OCLC has thousands of library members in more than 100 countries and is guided by representatives from member institutions that use OCLC services. Library leaders worldwide join forces to make collections open, inclusive, and accessible, raise shared issues, and deal with new challenges and opportunities.
The Global Council brings forward worldwide library viewpoints, guiding the OCLC Cooperative with their informed perspectives representing the 16,000 member libraries. Anatolia College Libraries learn from this global community by exchanging innovation and creativity, and this year are leading the library delegates of the OCLC Cooperative.
Dr. Evi Tramantza is currently the Director of Libraries and Archives at Anatolia College, Thessaloniki, Greece, and has worked in Education for the last 33 years. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Sheffield in Information Literacy and an MSc Econ in Information and Library Studies from the University of Wales. In addition, she has received a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and holds a teaching qualification (TEFL).
She is a Chartered librarian (MCLIP, Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals, CILIP, UK), member, and mentor of CILIP. She has been a reviewer for the Journal of Information Literacy. In previous years, she served as a member of the UK Academic Libraries Committees.
Dr. Tramantza has been a chair of the Coordinating Committee of the AMICAL Consortium and is currently a member of the Leadership and Assessment committee and chair of the OCLC committee of the AMICAL Consortium. She believes in libraries' role in providing opportunities for fair access to life and building a kinder and better humanity.
In her message as the newly appointed Global Council Chair of the OCLC, she notes that: "Finding common ground is of critical importance to addressing the challenges we face today, from supporting environmental sustainability to encouraging shared understanding in pursuit of equity, openness, progress, prosperity, and peace around the world."
